How to Transition Mini Skirts for Fall

Call me stubborn, but there are some things I just won’t budge on. Giving up my shorts and mini skirts as the temperatures drop is one of them. It’s currently 100 degrees in Dallas and I’m not really dressed for today’s weather. I’m sitting inside, so it’s fine until I walk out to my car, but I’m in a mini skirt, long sleeves, and booties. And yes, my feet are sweating. As much as I love breaking out the Fall staples, I also love keeping some of my Summer pieces in my every day rotation. When styled the right way, you can wear your mini skirts for months to come. Today, I’m sharing how to transition mini skirts for Fall. These tips and tricks even work for shorts, so keep them in mind for that, too.

Let’s start with hands down my favorite mini skirt I’ve recently bought. This one is a classic black denim with a raw hem and I cant even count how many times I have worn it. In the Summer, I kept it light with a t-shirt or a tank top, but as it gets cooler I can wear it with long sleeves and even layer it with sweaters and jackets. It’s a classic piece that ends up with a great cost-per-wear ratio, as does any denim mini skirt in my book. There are so many amazing denim minis out there, that I’m rounding up my favorites for you below.

As much as I love the classic denim mini, it’s also fun to have a few statement mini skirts in your closet. I love choosing a statement skirt, because I get more use out of them than I would a dress. I paired this one with dark accessories and layered with a jacket. As it gets cooler in Dallas, I’d switch out the heels for a pair of booties. I almost never wear bright pink, but I loved this skirt (okay, it’s actually a skort.. bonus points!) too much to let that deter me.

This print is perfect for this time of year, it has some fun color, but the black backdrop makes it good to go for months to come. When styling a statement mini, I think it’s important to keep the rest of your look classic and effortless, otherwise it becomes too overstated. There are so many drool worthy statement minis out right now, so I’ve rounded up some of my favorites for you to shop below.

Below are a few quick reference tips for how to transition mini skirts for Fall:

  • Add booties
  • Pair them with a long sleeve shirt
  • Wear them with a sweater
  • Layer with tights
  • Add over-the-knee boots

Some minis were just made for Fall, like suede or leather mini skirts. The rich fabrics make them perfect to wear in the cooler months and even throughout the winter when layered the right way with tights or jackets. When in doubt, just ensure your outfit balances out. Your legs are exposed, so covering up your and your arms with longer sleeves, sweaters, and jackets will ensure your outfit embraces the mini skirt, but stays Fall friendly.

Hope you all are having a wonderful week so far! XO
